How we journey on our quest in the outer World very much reflects the journey within in the way we relate to others, cope with the challenge of change and the attendant fear, being extended beyond comfort zones, approach our families, and develop our careers. This journey within is where ‘it is really at’. It is here that we ask ‘Who am I?’, ‘Who is running this show.....me.....my ego.....fate....who?’, ‘Am I OK?’, ‘What do I think and feel about me and what is the truth here?’, and so on.

Dragon Skin is the largest on-going scouting activity in the country. Every year, scouts aged between 15 and 18 years head to a State forest somewhere in NSW for a four-day adventure involving challenges in fitness, bushcraft, teamwork and survival. The scouts work in teams, completing as many activities as possible.
"Sunny Corner State Forest, near Lithgow, was the perfect location for the Dragon Skin due to the many different forest environments," State Forests community liaison officer, Rob Finlay, said. "The scouts experienced both dense pine plantations and native forests when attempting to complete the challenges over the long-weekend. Despite what you’ve heard, Bushcraft is an affliction. It is a disease that grips the unsuspecting person when they are at their lowest ebb. It usually starts with watching certain outdoors television programmes and particularly affe cts the age group of 30 – 45 who haven’t considered buying a high-powered motorcycle. Early symptoms are: looking longingly at any wooded area, a yearning to buy kit and then a yearning to sleep out in the garden. Advanced stages of the disease see the afflicted person looking affectionately at sharp, shiny objects, shaving their arm with the said object, constructing strange articles such as wooden spoons and leather pouches, standing at the front door expectantly waiting for a parcel delivery, howling with joy when the parcel arrives, joining forums on the internet, and staying out for 3 or 4 days at a time. TEMPLE FIRE: This hearth consists of a raised platform, built of green timber. Four uprights support cross- pieces in their forks. Across them place a layer of g reen logs and cover this with several inches of earth. Light the fire on top of this. A po le across upper forks on diagonally opposite uprights can support cooking pots.
IN WINDY CONDITIONS:If there are particularly strong winds, dig a trench and light your fire in it.Also good for windy conditions: encircle your fire with rocks to retain heat and conserve fuel. Use them to support cooking utensils. Their heat, as well as that from the fire will keep things warm and you can use the rocks themselves as bed warmer.
Slate and shale have air pockets that when heated, turn into grenades.Fire should be contained to a small area with cleared surroundings of approx 2 m fire place will vary depending on use, Heating, cooking etcWind direction, shelters location and storage of wood should all be part of the consideration for the fires location and purpose. Humans as creatures that are driven by want. Everything we have achieved is because someone wanted something. Without that it’s just back to what we need. But getting what we need is called survival, rather than bush craft. Your mind is focused on just fulfilling your immediate and basic needs Bushcraft is an altogether more stylish activity than mere survival - it’s about wanting rather than needing to be in the outdoors.
Frosty in the mornings. Clear skies at night, and warm sunshine during the day we couldn’t have asked for better medicine

The Great Di viding Range, also known as the Eastern Highlands, is Australia's most substantial mountain range. The range stretches more than 3500km from the northeastern tip of Queensland, running the entire length of the eastern coastline through New South Wales, then into Victoria and turning west, before finally fading into the central plain at the Grampians in western Victoria. The Great Dividing Range starts north east of Melbourne and heads east to the New South Wales border. The pretty alpine country offers a wide variety of activites from bushwalking and fishing, to rock climbing and skiing. Whatever time of year it is you should make sure you have a variety of supplies as temperatures can quickly change. The basics of bush craft cover, how to prepare your self for fast changes in what mother nature and weather can deliver. Wind,Water and Fire are elements that can be destructive if not harnessed. Wind can be re-directed by placing a solid obstacle in its path or even down graded by placing partial screens in its path.
Water can be re directed with gravity directional flow, harnessing the volume and trenching. Fire has the ability to be controlled by its size and location.
Bush Craft covers many topics depending on the individuals circumstances in the bush. Shelter and fire would be in the top 5.For more:
