If traveling is your relaxation mantra, do plan a visit to South Africa which is located on the southern tip of Africa. Possessing a coast that borders the Atlantic as well as the Indian oceans, South Africa can clearly be defined as an exhilarating and complex country. The climate in South Africa is kind with many places offering an opportunity to experience the wildlife here. The constitution in South Africa recognizes eleven official languages with English as the most common for commercial and public use. Unlike in the past, today South Africa certainly has an abundance of energy and progress.Labels: Africa |

Well, here are some quotes that describe the beauty of nature in well selected words. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods; There is a rapture on the lonely shore; There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not man the less, but Nature more -Lord Byron In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous -Aristotle Human subtlety will never devise an invention more beautiful, more simple or more direct than does Nature, because in her inventions, nothing is lacking and nothing is superfluous. -Leonardo da Vinci |

Out of the many things you need in the outdoors, an axe is certainly a must-have since it can be used as a hammer, a wedge as well as a cutting edge. While choosing an axe consider its purpose, your build, your rucksack-weight and your budget. If you are going hiking or camping, a Mini-hatchet or Wildlife Hatchet would be ideal since it is light and convenient to use. If you like you can also buy a Small Forest axe instead of the two mentioned above for use outdoors. |

Being the gateway to the “Roof of Africa”, the Sani Pass links the prominent scenery of the Drakensberg to the mountains of the northern Lesotho. The only border between Lesotho and Kwazulu-Natal, the Sani Pass is a place that can have four seasons in a single day. It is advisable to keep this in mind before you embark on your journey on this scenic route. After all I am sure you wouldn’t like to be caught unawares! |

While in the outdoors always treat all water as if it is contaminated. To resolve this problem, boil water before using. This is done as most organisms are unable to survive up to 1 to 2 minutes of boiling. If you are unable to find water, look for animal trails and follow it. Also look for birds as they often circle a watering hole. Insects and plants are also good indicators of water sources. If that isn’t working, dig holes in the ground and watch it fill up with rainwater or look for a dry creek as it might have water running under the ground. |

If you are venturing into the outdoors, remember not to leave without your cutting tools, especially the knife. Knives are available in many different kinds ranging from sheath knives to folding ones. Of course do ensure that the blade has a flat level as this facilitates easy sharpening. Do also remember not to select a knife that has a finger guard as it prevents the user from strangling the knife blade in order to perform delicate tasks. Last but not the least, remember to keep your knife clean and sharpen it regularly. |

With the amount of research being done on materials, it comes as no surprise that the clothing today is much lighter compared to what it was several years ago! Not only that, the synthetic shirts, pants and other clothes are so made that they can be worn for many days and even dry fast enough. While packing clothes for an outdoor trip, take clothes that work separately and layer together. This will help you prepare for any changes in weather! On dry, warm trips carry more than a single set of clothing while on wet and cold ones don’t forget the second base layer. |

THE FIREPLACE: It needs to be prepared carefully. Choose a site that is sheltered, especially during high winds. Do not light a fire at the base of a tree or a stump. Clear away leaves, twigs, moss and dry grass from a circle at least 2m (6 feet) across & scrape everything away until you have a surface of bare earth.
If the ground is wet or covered with snow, the fire MUST be built on a platform. Make this from a layer of green logs covered with a layer of earth or a layer of stones.
If land is swampy or the snow deep a raised platform is needed, known as a temple fire.
